Hi everyone,
I'm not new to the forum but its the first time posting. I've been back and forth on what kind of vehicle to convert into my future home (Van, SchoolBus, ShuttleBus, Ambulance ...) for over a year. I finally decided on a Shuttle Bus due to the extra headroom. I'm 6.2 and a roof raise isn't something I want to tackle on my own.
Anyhow, I worked out what type of shuttle bus (engine, transmission, body,...) I want and one finally came up for sale with decent milage and located only 6 hours away from me.
I'm Looking at a 2010 GMC 4500 Handicap bus, with the 6.6L Duramax and Allison transmission. It has 250.000km (about 155000 miles) on the chassis and transmission and 150.000km (93.000miles) on the engine.
According to the current owner (mechanic that buys projects to fill his downtime), the original engine ... "spun a bearing on the number 5 cylinder" ... what ever that means I don't know. So he swapped in a newer engine.
From what I have gathered online this drivetrain overall is pretty bulletproof, there's always exceptions to the rule right!
I'd like to hear your opinion and experiences with this type vehicle before I drive down there next week to look at it.
Thank you in advance!
Marty
