The Appleseed Bus

I finally finished my bus conversion, after 6 months of working on it while living in it on a farm in NH. Features a wood stove, 500watt solar power system, veggie oil system (75%complete) and lots of custom built in cabinetry, etc.. Let me know what you think.

Ah, the freedom of being young and single... I wish I had come across the house-bus idea when I could have really taken full advantage of it! Cool looking bus you've got there - I've never seen solar panels like those before.

I have concerns about wood stoves in any of the buses! The idea of having a front tire blow out and causing me to leave the road scares the crap out of me. We secure everything with that scenario in mind. A heavy cast iron stove with possibly hot embers in it makes me very uncomfortable. I want to be able to roll the bus onto it's side and everything still stay in place... including that jar of mayonnaise in the refrigerator. I've seen way too many pics of RV interiors after a wreck. Wreck itself wasn't that bad, but the "flying projectiles" is what usually takes out the occupants! Honestly, what idiot designer would place a freestanding table & chairs in a moving vehicle?

Other than that (it's a personal problem... I have sooo many ) Looks good!

The stove is the smallest one I could special order at the hardware store. http://www.berndtwholesale.com/osc/cata ... d=17121450 it puts out plenty of heat for the small, leaky bus even when there is an ice storm outside. Its bolted in and I put up a fire barrier and tile. I would never have the wood stove going while I was on the road!! That would be pretty crazy. The chimney has been a bit of an issue, I have hit a few branches with it, but the benefits out weight the drawbacks by a longshot. The solar panels are thin cell panels, they are very expensive, but I got them used from a friend who works at a solar company for free. I feel you on the projectile issue, its taken me quite a while to get a comprehensive checklist of things that need to be strapped down or put away before taking the bus on the road!.

Love the conversion. Have you checked into those telescoping piping for use above the roof line? They appear to work fine for the tent and camp stoves, would assume they could work decent for a bus chimney, too.

I am in the process of making a longer video about the Appleseed, about what its like to live in a bus, why I chose to do it, my philosophy behind small and simple living as well as documenting the conversion process its self.
