The Banned Bus

Just bought this baby from auction.

https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...15&acctid=7224

I compromised on a lot of things but I'm okay with that. I feel it will be a great starting platform to work with. Now to pick it up (hopefully tomorrow) and start...........

I have a rough idea for a floor plan. We'll see how well it will fit with the bus and wheel wells etc..

Looks like this is a good website to look for buses.

For us, the wheel wells drove some of our decisions in the layout. We built a dining room table (convertible to twin bed) over one of the front wheel wells. We built a passenger seating area over the other front wheel well. The back wheel well is covered by the hot water heater/bathroom sink/bathroom wall/bedside table/bed. The other back wheel well is in a very awkward place and we don't know what to do with it yet. I climb over it to walk around the foot of the bed right now.

$506...wow! Great deal!

I hope you have a short drive back, or even better, get it towed. Looks like it's been sitting for a long time. No garauntee that the brakes still work or if the tires hold air.

Well I went and picked it up today after some much needed calling around as my initial ride ditched out at the last minute. Picked it up from the correctional facility that it sat at for 3-4 years, being moved around occasionally. No plates, insurance, or people following me. I was nervous on the way down to pick it up seeing as 5 cops were stationed on the side of the road(getting that time of month). Only hiccup was at the gas station, stupid thing flooded after I filled it up. I let it sit for a few minutes while talking with someone who claims to have rode in it being sent to the facility I picked it up from.... She started up and I and was off!!! Only had to drive about 30 miles total. Made it home the rest of the way at a staggering 40-45mph. Need to look at the gearing.

She is sitting at a buddies place. I'd already be ripping out the seats but I need to get ready to head to NYC for work. I drive the BIG ol' pretty buses around.

Hopefully this posts...

Got back from NYC last night... Had a chance to get over there and work a little bit on the bus. Kinda difficult with just one person. I'm hoping to get a helping hand to help with seats. I need to pick up an angle grinder, I may just cut the bolts and go about it that way. Also, kinda bummed the bars on the side aren't on the outside, I would have left them on for a bit if not permanently.

Question: The inside of my bus is NASTY, mold, rat droppings, other random who knows what from inmates ... I'm thinking of cleaning the inside even though it's going to be all torn out and redone. Any recommendations on a bleach alternative or other solution?

Those of you in Maine, have you been able to overcome the crap that comes with insurance? I thought it was taken care of last week before I left but the agent I was referred to came back and said "no go".

I don't often use chemicals, but when I do I use harsh ones.

Maybe some heavy duty cleaner/degreaser?

I hate bleach a whole lot, too. I'm sensitive to it badly for some reason.

I need to figure out how to post a video on here. I was checking all my lights to see what works what doesn't. Found out my flashers up top work. Super excited about that even though I know it's illegal to keep 'em.

I didn't understand what you meant here until I clicked on the govdeals link and saw what you actually bought!

Seriously though it looks like a nice bus. Talk about repurposing and up-cycling! Have fun with it!
