I'm a fresh air freak, so that won't be an issue.....that pesky explosion thing could put a damper on my day though.

Been slow at work the last couple of weeks, so took the day off for bus-work. Got the rear half of my ceiling up.....had already cut, sanded, and urethaned the boards, so today was pretty much just drill-and-screw. I really like all the raw wood I have, but don't want to overdose on it, so for my upper cabinets I'm going to switch up and try wire mesh inside a wooden frame.....we'll see how it goes.
Also installed a lock on the back door. A big 'Thank you' to whomever posted a pic similar to this a few weeks ago.....for the longest time, I'd been looking for a conventional deadbolt long enough to extend into the door jamb......never would have thought to just block the lever from retracting. I'm not going to install the lock cylinder on the outside just yet.....I think I'll be fine with this as-is.

Thanks, but it's no longer a deck.....for insurance purposes, it is now a 'solar panel rack'.

I didn't install the key cylinder on the outside.....i just wanted the inside assembly.
This pic is of another bus, but the keyhole is in the exact same place mine would be if I installed it. This owner says he has the turn the key, then move the door handle almost to the key so that the 'bus door' lock bolt is pushing down on the 'deadbolt' bolt.....then he removes the key and finishes opening the door. If I were him, I'd just cut off the bottom inch or so of the door handle so it would clear the key.

I identify as a solar panel
What angle did you cut the bottom of the joists?

Well, then, feel free to climb on up there......and don't forget your beer.
No angle.......I put 3/8" thick weatherstripping on the outside edges of the joists, and bent the brackets slightly so that they were perpendicular to the centerline plane of the roof, then shimmed the inside edges of the joists 1/16", then bolted the joists on, then removed the shims. The inside edges ended up just above the roof, so that water can't get trapped against the wood and start the rotting process. The joists also got painted and urethaned beforehand.

Hey man, this looks great! Another quick question about your roof deck. You mentioned that you used bolts instead of screws, which makes sense. But how does it work on the inside? Are the bolts going all the way through your roof and into the interior, where each one is held on with a nut and washer?
I've been working on my six-window too, but it's been all interior stuff during the winter...I'm passing the time otherwise figuring out my roof deck build plan for the spring, so this is good info!

Just a pull handle. I've just been grabbing the space under the door and pulling... I have the handle to install.

Clean set up the way you have it. Do you really need a handle? The door pops open a bit anyways once you unlock, right?

It needs a little tug to open. Think its the weather stripping. I'm not going in and out of there a lot at this point so I'll probably put it off until more important things are finished.

1" was my original thought, but went with 3/4" pine for weight savings. The deck is 6' wide.....thought if I went 8' I'd be more likely to snag a tree limb or worse. Weight? I'd guess around 200 pounds or so total.

Stop adding to my To-Do list! I was gonna have 1 plug for a radio, but if I add another for a blender, then I gotta build a dumbwaiter to get the liquor, ice, drink mix, munchies, etc. upstairs.

Was wondering where you were on your build.....haven't seen any updates in a while.
Just as you said.....bolts running through the FLANGE of the roof ribs. Tried 3/8" bolts to start, but keeping the holes inside the width of the 1/2" flange was not leaving me enough room to get the washer and lock nuts on (bolts were too close to the ribs), so I dropped down to 5/16".
Used locking pliers to hold the nuts while tightening from the roof. I envy you all your boys......extra hands whenever you need them.

Ah, that makes sense and sounds like a really solid way to do it. But you're doing a much more thorough build than me -- I haven't taken the ceiling skins off (and don't plan to), so I don't know, I might have to go all the way through the ceiling and have bolts sticking into the interior. :/ Gonna have to think about that, and whether there are any decent alternatives.
I'll get photos up soon from my continued build...been working on the "living room," i.e. the 5 feet behind the driver's seat!
