I tried the saw when I did my steps last year, but there's not enough room under there......and nobody wants to see me with an OA torch in-hand. I finally got it out using a cutting disc, grinding disc, hammer, crowbar, cold chisel, hand sledge, magical incantations and cuss words. And I kicked it a few times when I finally had it on the ground.

Got my cage built. All the wood joints will bolt together, and then the whole cage will be bolted to the frame, floor rib, skirt and skirt bracket......not trusting any of this to screws. I've already disassembled and sanded....I'll put 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of urethane on everything this week, then re-assemble it next weekend. The back plate is wider to allow me to use 3 existing holes in the frame, and the cut-out on the right will be to access a propane manifold mounted to the side of my stepwell.

So how do you access the tank? Does is swing down, slide out, etc?

That thing cut me twice, and almost set my hair on fire......kicking it felt quite cathartic.

The tanks (have room for two) slide in horizontally, then rotate upright. Sliding them in vertically would have required cutting out the bottom rub rail, and I didn't want to do that....I like that clean line across the bottom. The top of the door cut-out is even with the floor.

I'm late for the response... But I would have done what you did for the most part. What worked well for me In a Situation like that is 4.5 grinder with cut off wheel as deep as I can go. (Direct your Sparks in a manner not to blow back in your face) then use a sawzall with 6" or greater bi-metal blade on it and cut through the deeper ribs the cut off wheel won't reach...

I may have been mistaken... Were you removing the rib from underneath and not the floor itself also?

Yes.....just one rib underneath, and left the floor alone (...I would have said "left the floor intact", but the cut-off disc got away from me slightly at one point...).

I *guess* 90 minutes of hell to save 2.5" of ground clearance was worth it.

Well the main thing is it's done and you won't have to make that same cut again. That's what I felt like after I got all of my seats out... Lol

Bolt City.......3/8x16 s everywhere. Overbuilt like a lot of stuff on my bus, but at least I won't be worried about it while bouncing about the countryside. I'll build the door and finish the trim and paint early tomorrow.....95 degrees is too hot, especially since I'm not under any time constraints.

And got into an argument with a 1" diameter drill bit at work Wednesday.....I lost.

It looks worse than it feels....any strawberry I ever got from sliding into second hurt a lot worse.

Propane storage is done. Easy to slide the tanks in and turn upright, and have room for a pair. I'll add some eyehooks and bungees to keep them from rattling around in there. And got all the ground clearance that I could.

I hope I'm done building doors.

Looks great, Don! In the bottom pic it looks like it came that way. You can't even tell it's an addition, if not for the color & the trim.

Been running awning ideas through my head for awhile, and today was the day. Thought about using a roller, but was leery of it rubbing against my window awnings on the way up and wearing down too quickly, so I just roll it up by hand, put the clamps on it, set it on top of my window awnings, then climb up and roll it up the rest of the way. The storage boxes are only 4" tall, so very low-profile.

Was surprised at how well it all fit together.....figured I'd have to trim my support poles down a little, but the low side is exactly 6' off the ground, so I barely have to duck. I'll let the lumber air out this week, then urethane next weekend, as well as paint my support poles red and yellow 'barber-pole' style.....which means I'll only walk into them half the time.

And with the free end of the tarp sandwiched between 2 pcs of 5/8" dimension stock, it doesn't want to move side-to-side, which eliminates having to tie it off on each side. All in all, very pleased........and figure I can replace it every single year for 20 years for what a new RV awning would have cost.

I'll also make a small 6'x6' awning for the deck at some future point in time.
