Thoughts on Generator Location?

You don't have the same kind of ground clearance as a school bus, so I imagine that a typical generator would be hanging pretty low under there. A simple solution would be mounting it on a receiver hitch carrier basket. It would certainly be accessible there.

EDIT: This is what I will likely be doing on my bus. I will probably build a box to put it in (with holes for air intake/exhaust) which will hopefully reduce the sound level a bit. I like this idea because I can also easily remove the generator if I want to use it for another purpose. The main disadvantage to this is it may limit my towing options, although I've seen receiver hitch baskets that have another receiver on the back side of the basket so you can add yet another hitch. I'm not sure how strong this setup would be though...

dans idea is good.... you could also extend your rear bumper 18" or so and mount it there. One thing you need to keep in mind is that you are going to have to occasionally have to fix it and that will be hard to do if it is under the bus.

Don't forget you need to have access for adding oil to the generator.

Yep...with a shorty you often have to make space where there was none before. I am doing the same...extending my frame in back to create a deck where I can put a few things. The genset & it's extra fuel tank, my spare tire will go underneath and hopefully leave some room for a little storage of rough stuff. I already have another front bumper that will be cut and fitted to wrap around the deck.

When you build your rear "patio" make sure that it (or the load) does not cover the rear plate--that's a sure way to get pulled over. My two cents worth.
