Voltage regulator help!!

I just got a 78 GMC G30 shuttle bus that my friends and I are going to use to take up snowboarding, but I am having some issues. I just had the alternator refurbished, and the dudes at Napa said that I should replace the voltage regulator as well. I pulled out the plate that has two regulators, one adjustable one is not. They said that there should only be one hooked up, but they were both connected to different things. Is this correct and do they need to be replace when the alternator is refurbished? Thanks in advance for your help.
