Except you should know what you're buying. They are not filling those tanks to the industry standard. Great for getting rid of an expired tank but far cheaper and you'll have more fuel in the tank, by refilling. Still it's an option if you're in a situation.

I didn’t know that. Blue Rhino shorts you a pound. Amerigas is the full 18 pounds. Thanks for the heads up!

It appears Blue Rhino exchange tanks are only 15lbs. Lowes gets $20 exchange, $1.26/lb. I'm paying $.65/lb right now to fill containers. You pay double for the convenience of swapping. Only a value if you're swapping an out of date tank. New Blue Rhino tank is $50. Amerigas claims 20lbs in their tanks in their details.

Wow, good point. Maybe that’s why I initially was against? IDK.

I’m still going to swap for the convenience

Very good information - thank you ford doing the leg work on pricing! So, go with refill whenever possible - exchange only out of necessity.

If the horizontal RV tanks ever get back in-stock maybe I'll try to snag one of those . . . I like the low profile better anyway. Something to look forward to in the future!

And that's just fine as long as you're an informed consumer willing to pay for the convenience, brand reputation, brand loyalty, whatever. It's the informed part that's important.
There are things that I pay extra for because I refuse to support the manufacturer, retailer, or even just the management of the lower priced competitor.
