Mine has some pretty big gaps and was never meant to be water tight ... I have the cage welded and bolted up under neath the bus and am trying to run fuel filler hose and fuel lines today ...

I think this shows why it's waterproof. The hole goes through the outer skin and then that second layer inside (with the grommet around the round hole) is the chair rail. Not much water will get past the outer door because of how it's constructed, and then what does get through would drip off that inner layer. My bus showed no signs of leaking through here.
Just realized I can't get this cover up right now, because the foam board and the chair rail lip together prevent it from coming out. I'm going to have to cut the foam a bit here.
