Overall WVO capacity

Just curious as to how much WVO some people are carrying at any given time. I'm thinking of increasing my "clean" reserve. Currently I travel with a 60gl tank and a few cubits to supplement. For the uninitiated, a cubit is the container that new veg oil comes in......I think it is almost five gallons. I want to increase my distance to 1000 miles before I have to refill. I figure 1000 miles is a pretty darn good trip distance before needing refueling. Who has what on board? RECYCLER

90 Gallons in the bus and 10 or 15 in the back of my pickup.
I get between 9 and 10 MPG.

Re: Overall WVO capacity

When we left Oregon we had 105 gallons. Because of a coolant leak, I only burned about 40 gallons on the way down there. While there, I fixed the leak and collected from the palapa resturants on the beach and filled the tank. I left there with 90 gallons. I drove from San Blas to Guaymus on WVO. Everything worked great. It was a great first run on oil.

I plan on installing dual 140 gallon aluminum round tanks from a freightliner semi in just a few days. That should give me some distance.

Nice, how much did you score those for..........free? Thats like a whole road trip for one fill-up! Thats what i'm thinking, fillerup before the trip so you don't have to hunt. WHERE did you score those tanks and are they going underneath? RECYCLER

Re: Overall WVO capacity

I did indeed get them from free from a trashed freightliner. Last road trip i went on was 7500 miles, so I'll have to fill up when I get to the west coast again, but its no problem. I will be putting these things under the bus. At 24 inches tall, they'll be quite low, but still higher than an RV I think. The door frame for the bus and the front axle thing comes down that far, so I just have to worried about very poorly graded areas. My bus should still be able to go over even the largest speed bumps. I will put two steel bars below the tanks and to the sides so that they will scrap first, indicating a bad situation before I hit a tank. I have to create an adapter plate to mount the tank brackets to the bus frame as the holes do not line up, but this shouldn't be a problem.
