WVO problems?

Just wanted to see what kinds of problems wvo users have had with their systems. This could also be a venting point for views on the use of veg oil vs. biodiesel. Anyone have an opinion or viewpoint ?

Well after a given amount of time with no posts I'm left with nothing but encouragement!

Re: WVO problems?

I'd be interested in taking part in this discussion, too. My girlfriend and I are planning on setting out across the U.S. and Canada this summer in our short skoolie. I've heard that the supply of WVO is choking up, but even if we can use WVO for 25% - 50% of our total fuel, I'll be tickled pink. BioDiesel would be great, too.

Re: WVO problems?

With the diets that are common in this country there is no shortage of wvo. Only those that ask for it aren't stealing. I've found that after a couple of trips I've been able to develop relationships with establishments so that the next time I come through they are more than happy to let me fill again. Cleanliness is the most important thing in their eyes. Be nice and your trip will prosper nicely!

Nice. Thanks for the kind advice, everyone. Much appreciated.

Recycler - do you filter onboard? If so, what sort of setup do you use?

Re: WVO problems?

I pre-filter as I'm loading up through 10 micron. My wvo goes straight to the tank which has a heated (2micron)filter. I get about 3000 miles before the 2 micron needs changing. My stock filters need changing at 3000 to 5000 miles. I could probably filter smaller at the pre-filter stage and extend the change out rate, but 3000 miles is a pretty good amount of travel so it works out great for my timeframes.
