96 Eldorado

Hey folks, been hanging out here for quite a while as a guest feeding my brain for bus conversion possibility. I was sitting on the fence between building and just buying a decent used diesel pusher motorhome. I plan on trying full time RV living and after all my research (being here in colder climate) I starting to lean towards building my own based on a RE coach.

So I started looking and got a possibility of purchasing a 96 Eldorado coach with an 8.3 Cummings and Allison transmission. This is definitely drive train that I want but I'm not familiar with the Eldorado chassis and cant seem to find out much about it. It's a 40' RE coach with 36 seating and some removable tables with basement storage.

Any pros and cons ( Quality, dependability and service availability) on the coach itself would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
V

Sounds like a solid drive train combo, but there's not a lot of El Dorado savvy around here that I know of.

Which Allison do you have?

I've only heard the name mentioned when talking about shortie shuttle buses.

Yes usually up to 36' coach style shuttle. It had the right drive train but I wasn't to keen on the body. I really want a 40' RE blue bird or Thomas so I will keep .

Did you ever figure anything out about your ElDorado? I recently bought a 1993 ElDorado National Squire and can't find any information on it. I even called ElDorado in California and they couldn't even tell me much about this model. After sending some information to them and the guy sending what was given to him to the engineers, I obtained some wiring diagrams from older models, but still nothing that directly matches. Thanks!!
