He's the one to be careful. You can't float off the space station/bus when you are properly tethered. I saw no tethers in the photo. He's probably dead already. We should warn the search crew to watch out for body snatching aliens.

I dunno about that. If he drifting off the bus, wouldn't it be "Houston, we have a problem..."

Why we he call someone in Houston when he lives in Pennsylvania?
We might actually get a video of it if he called for help closer to where he is?

You guys are a blood thirsty bunch . Did not need a tether. My wife has good amount of gravitational pull.

Hardware came in and I mounted and cut the three cross member unistrut pieces. Put a cable gland in for the solar wiring and porential wind turbine. Trying to have the spare tire clamp down bars do triple duty as tire lift crane and windturbine tower. It starts to look like a space station op there.

Will have some pictures by Friday.

She already has you on a tether????
Some good there as far as money and time approval?
Could be worse?

Houston to PA is a hell of a lot closer than Houston to the moon. And beside "Goddard we've got a problem" just sounds redundant.

For me it just would be baby we have a problem. I always enjoyed the chewing gum commercial of the Russian and American astronaut together on a space station. An air leak occurs and they stop it with the chewing gum and then quarrel about who's invention it was.

Today was a wasted day. Hope tomorrow is better. A friend is coming over to help us out. Only 17 days to lift off .
I want to take 2 bicycles for the my wife and me along. Dory has a bike rack in front. It is a little intimidating to me to have that much stuff sticking out in front. Want to put a storage box on top of our jeep ( escape pod).
The solution or compromise will be easier to find if the pressure for departure increases. .

Need to install more floor heating, mount the rest of the awning, pop the remaining 6 solar panels on, finish the spare tire project and put a shower pan in. The rest I can do on the road.

Haven't seen it. But then I've not had cable for 4 yrs now. If it's an internet commercial there's small chance I didn't click on something else instead.

Shower pan is a must. Solar second. The rest sounds like it could be done on the road.

Dory floor heat in bedroom

Yesterday we got some things accomplished.
A friend helped out with moving surplus uni strut and getting stuff on order before we can take of to Arizona for skoolie palooza. We got stopped by the afternoon rain but this morning Tanya and I started on the floor heat in the bedroom. The webasto put slightly more heat out then my radiators can handle and as a result the webasto cycles on of every two hours. e figured adding a little more surface would help.

The I insulated more area's under the kids lounge and put 3/8 plywood on top.

During the dry period I fastened the solar racking on the roof. Hope to have some pictures tomorrow.

the TSL-17 seems to be a popular one.. but there are a lot of chinese knockoffs on the market that cost 1/3 or less than the real webasto's..

this one is a direct Air heater vs coolant heater..

there seem to be more and more of these popping up.. alieexpress has some too.. they may take a little time to get, but im guessing bob, you arent in a hurry to need it right away.

Yes and no. Once the sheet metal is done (which may be spring at this point), I'll be ready to spray foam. Sheet metal needs a second set of hands and the gf doesn't do cold well. If I do radiant (coolant), I'll need to do something about channels. If I do air then I don't have to worry about it.

In a hurry to make a decision maybe? Same with wiring. Do I conduit behind the spray foam or outside?

I wonder how far that fuel pump is good for.

Coolant is also cool (see what I did there) in that the floor is toasty warm. Are they, Webastos or the knock-offs, big enough to heat both the space and the floor without setting feet on fire?

Random coolant knock-off.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Air-Die...WXLK:rk:6:pf:0

Might be better to have air and coolant? Turn the floor off independent of the air. One of each still isn't close to the Webasto price. I've no idea what size would be needed, zoning different areas, etc. 45k HBUs from Webasto is $3100. Ouch!!

Bob, I do not think with decent insulation that you will be able to push more then 3KW in the floor only. Beyond that the floor will get to hot. For our bus 5 KW will keep us at 68F inside with 22 F outside. The remaining 2 Kw comes from a air radiator with fan.... Thanks Chris for that suggestion.... it was a temperature saver. So separate heaters one with coolant and one with hot air might be the way to go. at least you have redundancy. but also use more electric power.

Talking electric and redundancy... spare tire and more solar

I added two sheets of 1/2 double side aluminum on the outside of the bus.
It is hard to see in the picture. Then in the center section I added thin Stainless Steel sheet where the spare tire is going to rest. The reason that I did not want to the tire to vibrate thru the insulation.
All is stuck under the two lower unistrut rails. Each are bolted with 3 pieces of M10 stainless Thread thru the aluminum roof ribs and then with SS fender washer and eye nut on the inside.

Two of the 4 panels are up. Two more on the other side and then to more over the AC access panels.
That should bring our power up to 18 panels. About 900 Watt. May be later I will replace them for latest technology panels doubling the power.

I am running out of time.. there is a lot more to do before we leave to skoolie palooza at 01 Jan.

THX!!! That's some really useful info there. Is there anything special about your bus and/or the insulation vs. a skoolie?

Chris,
You're the resident HVAC expert. Those numbers jive? I've noticed 5k~8K WATTS and 5k~8K BTUs in random listings. I gotta be careful there when ordering/searching.

Um, the hot air ones I'm looking at are diesel powered not electric. Sure there's an igniter, fuel pump, fan and all that jazz but nowhere near the draw of an electric powered heater.

And running out of decimals. 900W out of 18 panels is terrible. 300W per panel and you're looking at 5400W.

Side note: IIRC I have room for 15 panels with the entire roof (minus hatches) covered. Even at 400W per panel, that's only 6KW. I don't remember what I was thinking I'd get but it was more than that.

Dory spare tire solar

A friend made time available to help out with the APU. So he is maching the shaft and pullies to ling it to the Ac compressor and DC generator/ motor.

He is big fellow and swung the tire on the a frame ladder and from there with both of us on the A frame , thank you OSHA for the slippery sticker, in the rain pushed it on the roof. Fitted like it was designed for it.

34" of quality rubber. Ordered a cover to prevent water standing inside and sun beating down on it.

Two more solar panels to go above the condenser grates. They are raised enough to be able to shed heat They are over designed for our application so i think we will be fine.

Here is a side view showing that the spare is about the same height as the AC system.

Next will be the awning brace bracket and adding more screws to the awning profile on top.

Also making a cardboard mockup from the shower pan and see if I can make it out of stainless.

Today we got confirmation that the first part of our trip to West Jefferson, NC is accepted and that the second part in Greenville South Carolina is approved as well. So the schedule is tightening up.

There ain't no wheel in that tire. Generally they hold air better if they have a wheel too.
