Rear Vent Dirt

I have a 1995 Gillig Phantom. My bedroom will be in the back like most RE. There’s a large vent on the back wall- intake? I was removing the carpet surrounding it on the wall and a massive amount of road dust came down too. This back area had an incredible buildup of this stuff in every crevice. The only opening back there is the vent. I’m now worried about road dust soaking my bedroom. I have terrible allergies and migraines so this will not work. There’s a hinge on the vent cover although I don’t know how to open it. If I could get it open I could create a filter perhaps. Any advise?
