Hello friends.
I'm in the process of a major restoration of my 1987 international harvester school bus.
I'm just having some trouble finding spare parts for it.
Does anyone know how I can find some information on my bus?

More info needed to ID your parts request...There should be a riveted on plate somewhere in the cab area that gives you model, date made, etc....

if you know your VIN# then you can go online and find a VIN decoder
i have heard of GATES VIN decoder but never really tried any of them.

i am missing wheel hub seal for my bus

If you look closely at the seal there should be a series of numbers stamped on the metal, usually on the side.

Another way might be taking the seal to a NAPA store. They are usually pretty good at ID'ing the seal and crossing it to one in their inventory.

International dealer with VIN number. Get the part numbers and try to cross to aftermarket.

I checked your VIN, and it shows a V6 9.0L engine. It is my understanding the 9.0 was a V8 configuration, having worked on one myself. It may be an error in the database listing.
The 9.0 was discontinued at the end of 1987 since it was unable to meet '88 emissions, replaced by the 7.3 at the time. If it ever takes a major puke, good luck finding a fresh engine for it. Fortunately, as long as they aren't overheated or run out of oil, they have a tendency to run a long time.
It could also be the 6V92 Detroit.

From other places I've read.... early in the life of this engine there were head gasket problems.... took a while for international to come up with head gaskets that helped to cure the problem. This engine is "parent block" it does not have sleeves ... this means that big ole heavy engine block has to come out and get bored if the cylinder bores are all worn out. I have found oversize pistons available around $600 to $900 a set.

water pumps, starters, cylinder heads.... found those new.

used engines... $1,000 to $5,000

trucks and busses with these engines $1,200 to $5,000

If you are committed to the engine, you should be able to find what is needed for a rebuild.... but you will have to look for the parts. not found at autozone....

As previously stated, try to find a number on the seal and cross reference it at your local auto parts store. Also, measure the ID and OD of the seal and research some seal cross reference sites online. Don't use a tape measure either, use a cheap set of digital calipers.
