87 Ford/Carpenter Bus Makin Me Hot?

I have temporary custody of an 87 Ford/Carpenter School Bus converted to tailgating machine for our HS Football Boosters. When driving I've noticed the left side puts off quite a bit of heat. Seems to be coming from below the panel with switches for lights, etc. Is this normal? Looked for a switch to see if heater was turned on, but so far haven't found it. There is a pull toggle on that panel that says "power vent" but not sure what it does if anything. Sorry for the simple question, but quickly losing hair on my left leg

There will likely be a coolant valve down near the base of that heater. Close it to stop flow to the heater core.

If you don't see a valve down there then it is likely under the hood. You'll have to follow the heater hose to find it.
