adjustments for more power?

I recently bought a '92 36 passenger Ford Wayne bus with a 7.8 Brazillian engine. The engine is new and the bus only has 88,000 miles on the chassis. It is topping out in 5th gear at about 45-50 mph. Can the gear ratio be adjusted to bump the top speed up a bit? If so, how difficult/expensive is this? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: adjustments for more power?

Someone told me that an overdrive unit would up the gear ratio in order to increase the top speed. Does anybody know anything about this? I am also concerned that flooring the bus for the entire duration of a long trip would put a lot of wear on the engine. Any thoughts would be helpful.

both power and rpm's can be increased for free....assuming you have the bosch inline injection pump (i am pretty sure you do)

I did this to a few different buses, and was very pleased with the results.
