Allison Transmission Trouble

Broke down in Alabama. 1997 Bluebird TC 2000, 5.9 Cumins with Allison 545.
Will go backwards but not forward.
Called everyone listed but no luck finding rebuild kit.
Seems Allison no longer sells them and only used them to rebuild units they have in hand.
Any help out there finding this or knowledge of a different transmission that can replace the Allison would be appreciated

Hey NavyVet, are you sure it's the transmission itself and not a linkage failure between the shift lever and the tranny? Let us know what you've done and checked so far. And good luck!

Yeah. There is an issue with linkage but I manually put it in reverse and that worked.
However moving shifter attacked to transmission will move but still doesn’t go forward.
Hope that makes sense. Puzzled here

If the shifter linkage goes out of adjustment it WILL burn up the foward clutches and leave you with reverse and 5 neutrals.

what he said.. if the linkage was bad prior it causes an internal fluid leak which reduces line pressure in an already line-pressure deficient transmission...

I still find Master kits all over the internet for these.

you can also buy them reman by OE.. most of these are RenEwed by Navistar Diesel shift points for 2600 RPM.. there are different part numbers you can look for the one you need..

by the time you buy a master kit and rebuild one yourself you can have one of these with converter installed and be rolling..

I bought a 643 from these guys 3 years ago and zero issues.

This says it's a transtar kit, which is our vendor for rebuild kits at the shop. I wouldn't be concerned with the quality of a transtar product.

And I agree with christopher, that even if you value your labor at nothing, you'll still likely be money ahead going with a reman'd unit.
