Re: AT545 overfull!

2500 rpm, 55 mph. What is your rear end geared at. That may be what it runs at in 4th.

To begin

Check the side of the trans for an ID. tag. This tag will identify the unit. Most Allison trans have a drain plug. As a last resort to drain some fluid, get a helper that can stop and start the engine, a five gallon bucket and remove a line from the oil cooler. After a line is removed from the trans cooler, and with the engine at an idle, allow the bucket to fill half way. Stop the engine, replace the cooler line and start the engine and check fluid level. This is a quick easy task
with no danger of making any problems. It maybe necessary to add fluid or remove fluid. You can send a check or money order. Frank

While checking over the trans...

In my experiences, I have found several buses to have a defective trans fluid cooler that has become defective. The cheap method of keeping trans fluid cool is to use engine coolant with a heat exchanger. The other method of keeping trans fluid cool is to have a dedicated cooler, preferable with a large fan. If engine coolant is found drain the trans quickly and check the smell and color of the trans fluid. Frank
