Re: Blackstone Lab

Thank you so much for posting. I was on their website yesterday and decided that this will be a top priority for our bus (be great if we can do it before we buy). Might have our race car checked out also.

Tex, could the high iron in the trans be from the drain plug itself? Just a thought. Thanks for posting this info, it is nice to "know" what your oil is doing!

Re: Blackstone Lab

I thought about doing this a while back but just got lazy. I found out about oil analysis from a maintenance foreman many years ago. When dealing with construction equipment, I guess a $50k engine is not uncommon.

BigTex, now you have a base line you can compare future analysis' to.

Re: Blackstone Lab

25 bucks for a test isn't too bad, but add it to 5 gals. of oil and a filter, or two --ouch!

Re: Blackstone Lab

Better to pay now and avert a rod through the block or spinning a main bearing.

Nothing like playing it safe but I think that's excessive. I don't see the benefit of doing it every other oil change.

Re: Blackstone Lab

8000 miles on an oil change. Lots can happen in 16000 miles on a 210000 mile engine. I could go to every 3rd I guess.
