Can anyone tell me about this engine?

We bought a property and the bus came with it. Itís a 1998 front engine Thomas Built school bus. Our plan is to sell the engine and transmission and use the money to convert the bus into a guest living quarters. Any information on the engine and transmission is greatly appreciated.

5.9L Cummins 12 valve withe the Bosch P7100 injection pump. These are highly desirable engines for people building high performance diesel trucks. The transmission will likely be not as desirable to the same person. Find a local diesel shop and let them know you want to sell it. Chances are it won’t last long. You won’t get a ton of money for it but someone will probably come and remove it themselves.

Or there's people that are trying to repower buses they converted and it already everything they need. What's your location and does it run? Someone may need it for their bus and pm you offers.
A running 12v engine on a pallet might be worth 2-4k on the open market. This one will take a bit of work to remove, but make sure you leave it in until you sell so you can prove it all works.

Welcome to the site.

If you "cripple" the bus by removing its engine and trans., you won't be able to easily move it again.

Perhaps it is located exactly where you want it for now?
If you eventually get tired of looking at it in your yard, or want it gone, it will be more difficult to sell or dispose of in a stripped down state.
Just something to ponder before its too late.

Good luck going forward...

Thank you all for the quick and informative replies. The bus was driven on to the property in 2017. The previous owner of the property claims it still runs, but was unable to prove it because the battery has been removed. If anyone on the Big Island of Hawaii is interested in this engine lmk. I think weíre ok with the bus being stationary, at least through the rest of this decade. Also, how can I figure out what type of transmission is in this thing?

If it runs being located in Hawaii may make it more valuable as the supply of used 12 valve cummins is likely limited on the island. If someone needed one shipped from the mainland it would not be cheap.

You can crawl under the bus and there will be a data tag on the transmission. Mine is on the right side.
