Cummins 8.3 ISC Black Smoke @ cold Start

Hello everyone,
I have a question about our Bluebird 8.3 ISC. if the bus stands still for a day, it throws out a black cloud when it starts. everything is ok during the journey. only if he has been standing for a longer time at the start. is that normal so far? it does not have a particle filter.
Best regards

I would suspect the grid heater is not working properly. It should warm the air in the intake so that the engine starts right away. How long do you have to crank the engine before it starts? If it is not starting right away it could be accumulating fuel in the cylinders which leads to the black smoke.
