Dt466e running bad

Was idling and started running very rough .
I’ve been having to jump it.
Cleaned fuel water separator . Was terrible .
Changed fuel filter .
Still running bad . Tried with out air filter on and same .
Might setup a way to run it from a 5gallon can .
Have a oil warn light in . The oil is fine when off. Maybe a little thin but not sure .
I checked the water separator after I installed it the first time and it still wasn’t working right but it was clean and fuel looked good.

both your red Oil / water and WARN lights are on? or just the yellow WARN light?

what does your dashboard oil P gauge read when running?

the oil / Water red light comes on if the oil pressure is below 6 PSI for more than 5 seconds.. or if the water Temp goes above 228.

the yellow WARN light comes on for a multitude of engine codes..

I remember reading in another thread something about a small metal screen in the fuel line or maybe where the fuel line connects to the filter housing…

Sorry I can’t be more clear on this but I would check the fuel input line to the filter housing, might be where the screen is, clogged and blocking fuel flow maybe?

Wish I could help out more.

I found the reference to the screen and check ball,

It’s the yellow oil warn light … I just reset the codes . Maybe shouldn’t have but I wanted to see if it would run better . It didn’t . Oil pressure is normal

The metal filter I posted a pic of kind of sits underneath the primer and I’m guessing is fuel water separator .. I would like to buy one that has a clear housing and metal filter with a separate drain… I’ll look for another one and a check valve though because I didn’t see any thing like that

Also I probalay had a 1/4 tank of fuel that sit in there for a year and treated with diesel kleen last February. . I just added another 15 gallons of new fuel yesterday . Not sure if I should jerry rig a container to by pass the possibly old fuel and if that works then drain the tank .

The ball valve sits on top of fuel water separator . It comes off with a huge Phillips head and is just a cap . Once off I pumped the primer to maybe get more water out of filter . I guess that’s the way it supposed to be done . But I saw the ball valve it’s in there doesn’t look shiny or new . Probalay wouldn’t hurt to take it out and clean but I left it in and same

ha! now i got it.. the DESI strip behind the dash came loose and slid down! so you have 1/2 the 'water / oil' light and half of the WARN engine light....

Yeah I need to do some soldering soon hahah. But get the bus running right first . I had maybe 15 gallons of fuel in there that’s a year old and I added diesel clean in with it at that time . Now I’m thinking I added 15 fresh . It is yellow I just checked when I saw an actual red light for something else …

you should be able to read the codes by turning key to ON (engine not running).. then pressing the diagnostic button under the dash next to the grey / green round computer connector.. it will flash the codes out as a series of sequences..

https://www.binderplanet.com/forums/...engines.59291/

is an old post on a forum about it.. the codes themselves in that post arent the latest.. ive got a book with the most current ones if you get them.. they may help us figure it out..

Found this…

525 ECM Injector driver circuit DTC
ECM cannot supply sufficient voltage to injectors
Engine harness, injector harness or ECM problem

515 Bank 1 low side short to ground or B+

521 Bank 2 low side short to ground or B+

Check wiring harness, pass through connector on the side of the valve cover.

Maybe rodents ate some wires???

I would start up the bus and try moving/jiggling the injector wiring harness to see if there is any change in idle.

Al#o check the grounding wire too.

Man I was checking out valve cover wiring and didn’t see much I’ll look again and try to take pics if possible . Definitely could be rodents though they all seem electrical related. I was getting about the same search results. Thank you man
I saw rat poo as well but could of been from however log. Ago maybe a few months

Definitely check wires for pinches, bare spots, etc.

Use multimeter to see if harness is shorted to power and ground. Check fuses and relays for cleanliness and good contact. Check terminals in the idm If you can't find anything anywhere and still have issues, idm might be bad.
