It isn't hard.
No need to remove the egr valve or coolers, just leave them in place, they're not in the way and won't cause trouble unless activated.
To remove the catalyst and particulate filter, you just use a saw and cut the pipe right before and after them. Then you get a pipe of the correct length and diameter and install it in place of the item you removed. Some folks will put a muffler in place of the pipe to keep it quiet, because the emissions devices will act as a sort of muffler.
The mechanical aspect is easy, it's usually the electronic aspect that requires special know how.
