Engine Longevity

I know this is a very general question and the answer will vary from case-to-case.

This will be my 2nd build but my first Skoolie (short bus, 4-7 windows). The carpentry, electric and plumbing isn’t a problem for me, but I’m admittedly ignorant when it comes to engine mechanics. What kind of longevity did you all get from your engine?

Feel free to comment with specifics to your situation (what type of engine, original or after market, mileage, any issues you’ve had, etc.). Thanks in advance!

Most of us haven't gotten there yet and don't plan on it for many miles. Mine has 255k and I expect it will last another 100k-200k before a rebuild might be needed. It does depend on the motor, but many are typically can go 500k before refreshing, some can go a million miles.

MUCH depends on the care an engine has had through its life..



we have all seen the posts of people here buying busses with 125,000 miles and the engine is basicially dead.. and there are those with close to 300K and they run perfect..



AND avoiding "event logs" as they are called in my Navistar software.. DONT get a diesel hot, dont run it low on oil



simple maintenance wise, clean oil, clean coolant, clean fuel. go a long ways toward making it last a long time...
