Engine swapping a 77 Thomas options/difficulty

There is a 77 thomas with a 555 cummings v8 for sale and its still got some redeeming characteristics and I might be able to get it for a real good price considering its not running anyways. From what i've read the 555 isn't worth it so I was thinking about dropping in or rather lifting in in this case I suppose a newer diesel engine. Engines are easier to come by then nice flat noses here lol. Curious if anyone tried swapping the engine on these old flat noses or if it is simply not viable. I've done engine swaps before, but not to this extent and I've never worked on a flat nose bus. If its possible is there a good engine to look for?

Don't know any more about the bus model then it's a 77 Thomas with a 555 v8 cummings diesel engine at this moment.
