Has anyone done or is it possible to do a 6 lug to a 10 lug swap?

I found my build sheet it is very difficult to read. That looks like I have four wheel disc brakes. 15x1.435 all the way around. Is it possible just swap out the six lugs to a 10 lug setup? There's one video on YouTube the guy taking Dayton hubs and putting on regular hubs.

The only time I looked into doing this, it was on an old gas engined dump truck and we were looking at swapping entire axles. Then we realized we could sell what we had, and for the cost of the swap, have a much newer/better dump truck, so it never got past the planning stage.

So you currently have Dayton hubs and would like to swap to Budd hubs? Yes you can do it, however it requires know what axles you have and if the axle manufacturer ever made the alternative type available on your axles. If they did you can creat a parts list of things you’ll need. The effort will be involved and the tools necessary will be extensive, but yes you can do it.

While it’s possible, I really think he meant Daytons since he referenced a guy on YouTube doing what he wants. I could be wrong though.

The wheels are 6 lug stud pilot. I would love to have 10 lug hub pilot. I see a few things that might be a problem, the first being hydraulic, four wheel, disc brakes.

If you go to Short Bus conversions and look at the pictures in the thread "Her name is Texas"

Ah gotcha. Welp my biggest concern would be old carrying capacity and unsprung mass. Everything would become larger and you might find all the original steering and suspension components (and possibly chassis) are not up to the task of larger hub assemblies.

Add that to my list of a few problems. I think in the meantime I'm probably going to look for a spare wheel just in case.

Your bus is way newer then what I was looking at. That old dump truck had 2 piece rims on it and it was going to need new tires. So I set out looking for 1 piece rims and couldn't find any in the size we needed, which led to hub swaps, which led to axle swaps, which led to finding a different dump truck.

What you have looks new enough that you should be able to find a spare rim for it. So why would you want the 10 lug swap again?

I found one wheel for $299. I can buy brand new accuride 10 lug Hub piloted wheels for $222 per wheel. I can mount 11R 22.5 on those because the wheels I have are too narrow to install tires that large. The elevens will help me achieve my goal of lower RPMs then the 9 R22.5. Plus, new accurides would look very nice I can figure out how to get them on my bus

Yeah, I'm gonna be That Guy.

Hey Noob, why don't you fill out your profile and add information like your location and what kind of bus you have!

Hey That Guy, see post #7.

I have several buses so I don't list them in my profile.

Warm regards,

Noob
