How much would you pay for this?
Hi everyone! New to the idea of living in a skoolie. Originally I wanted a very short bus but I cant seem to find anything within 500km (yes, I'm in Canada) thats less than 24ft and has the km/engine that I want. So I found this bus, its a mostly rebuilt 1998 international 24ft bus with the dt466 and 5 speed Allison transmission. Beautiful red paint job (a little flashy for me) and well loved and taken care of. They're asking 15,000. How much would you pay? Should I wait to find a shorter bus? TIA!

I've offered them 10,000 CAD so 7,600 USD. They wanted a little more than that though. A counter offer of 12,000 CAD (9100) was made. It looks to be in amazing shape, just not sure what market value would be on something like that. It only has 80,000miles on the rebuild.

To me that's a $5000-$6000 bus. If the paint job is REAL nice.

That is a sweet looking bus.
If the price were in line I could get excited about that one.
Move the back wall 8' forward and build a flatbed. Add a gooseneck ball. Hmmmmm....
Neat to contemplate but I would have to agree with CB, it's a $5-6k bus IF it
checks out as nice in person as it does in the pictures.

It just occurred to me that with the MD-3060 that this bus is likely to have a higher HP variant of the
DT-466.
Was the '98 electronic or mechanical?
A mechanical 466 and MD-3060 in a 6 window...... That could be fun

OP does not state a 3060 but rather a five speed. Perhaps a 643?

Its interesting that everyone is saying the 5-6k USD range, because from what I've found in Canada the prices are MUCH higher. Everyone wants an arm and a leg for their ford e350! As well as the fact that I can't find many auctions unless their in Washington so theres no dirt cheap gems out there.

Then perhaps you may want to consider shopping for a bus in the US?
A couple of members here have had good success taking US buses home to Canada.

I'll have him look at it when I can get 6th unlocked.
Personally I'm not real concerned about power increase. My bus will run close to 100mph. It pulls fine on the bottom end. I don't need anything adding heat issues to the bus. I'm more interested in getting better fuel mileage.

To me, that’s just the right bus. . So put into perspective
That bus in good running condition with semi-low miles and no rust in Southern California is $5K USD.
The paint job if it’s of the quality done by a shop is probably $4K USD.
So their $12K CAN isn’t far off.
If you’re into the aesthetic and that paint looks as good as the pic, and the rest looks as good as the paint, then maybe it’s not too bad.
Plead poverty and.grovel them down

I've been following Michener Allan and Richie Bro auctions in Canada, and I've yet to see the same kind of bus bargains in the US - even Kijiji has some decent prices

I agree, the asking prices are higher up here.
Buying in BC is an advantage though, you get to skip the inspection.
The bus you are considering could easily be worth that much if it has good tires and is mechanically in tip top shape. It's common to buy a worn out bus, spend a couple of years converting it and then be afraid to take it out on the road.
Not many short buses come with a 466.
You have about 15' of conversion space in that red bus. That is what I have in mine and it makes a good camper but I would not be interested in living in it full time. If I were planning to go full time I would start with at least 8 windows or maybe just buy a motor home.
