I think I scored!

I found an Allison AT1545P that was used for the M35A3 trucks. It has lockup and is mechanical. I think it will be an easier swap than the MT647 that I bought from another member here. It should pop right in without driveshaft shortening...I HOPE.

As far as I can tell, the dimensions are the same. I won't have it in my hands for a couple of weeks.

Wow, that's it. I thought I would get much more feedback. These transmissions are more rare then hens teeth.

Probably because the general consensus on here is that AT series Allison transmissions are complete junk . That's fine by me as far as I care, it just makes finding one if and when I need it that much more easier . Though I doubt I'll ever have to......

What did that puppy come out of? Online I read they were used in the 2.5 ton military trucks but all the ones I've ever come across had a spicer manual. Take some pics when you get it if you could because I'm curious if it has any extra lines or anything for the clutch. Or maybe something that would make one more easily identifiable.

Since I haven't been following...the 35A3 series deuces are 35/A1/A2 series trucks that had undergone a service life extension- new engines, new automatic trannies, some got central tire inflation.

I think what happened was the deuces were being rebuilt buy a contractor in the nineties. They were getting Cat 3116 engines, auto transmissions(AT 1545) because most people can't drive manuals and new axles with super singles. Now all the deuces have been sold, so occasionally parts come up. I found mine.

I picked up two transmissions. I also picked up a PTO winch and the PTO that came with it. I will try to post pictures by this weekend.

That's cool! Looks to be identical to a standard at545(maybe beefier, I can't really tell). Looks brand new too, so I'd say you lucked out if you got it for a good price.

Not new, rebuilt. Looks like trans fluid in the bottom of the crate not motor oil like I have been reading about on Steel Soldiers. I don't think it is any beefier than an AT 545. The only reason I wanted it was because it would be an easier swap then a MT643. Take one out, pop the other in. I figure if I take care of it from gitgo, it should last me a long time and I will have a lockup TC. I hope this lowers the RPMs 2-300 immediately.

Nat

I would love to put an 8.3 Cummins in my bus. I just bid on some Bluebirds with 8.3 engine, 5 speed manuals and 2 speed rearends. They all sold for over $4000 with rusty bodies so obviously I wasn't a player.

One of the issues I have is lack serious fabrications skills, indoor space to work and time to work on stuff. Putting food on the table is a priority right now. I will lean towards an easy swap over a major swap right now like this AT1545 swap.

Hey man I was just linking more army surplus usage.

Any transmission swap is better than none.
