IC Bus

Hi friends,
Please be so gentle. I am just starting and have so much to learn.
A 2013 IH IC school bus has just shown up on my Facebook marketplace. Here is the description:

Super Clean 2013. IH. 35 Pax school Bus. Super clean 98k miles Drives like a new bus.
Max Force Diesel. Auto Hydraulic/. W Elect Assist.
Great small bus to convert. To an RV. Like new Tires. And almost rust free.

It is definitely within budget, but I’m wondering why the price is so low. I also haven’t heard much of this brand.
The dream is to convert to an off grid RV. I would appreciate any insight you may have about this bus. Thank you for your help!

it is probably so cheap because of the engine thats in it.
the MAXXFORCE is known to have problems and very expensive to fix.

MAXXFORCE is STEER CLEAR for many.
Also 2006 has undesireable emissions systems that can be avoided by going back just a couple of years. Many prefer totally mechanical rigs (heading for 95 and earlier) because they just don't have all those wire and computer problems as possible issues.

Maxxforce in buses had two variants - the Maxxforce7 (6.4L inline-6) often seen in smaller buses. Usually designated by a "200" series - BE200, CE200, or RE200 with BE, CE, and RE meaning short bus, conventional bus, and rear-engine bus respectively. It had lots of known issues.

The larger variant was the Maxxforce DT (7.6L V8 ), an updated version of the DT466e. I'd call the MaxxforceDT "slightly less evil" than its little brother, the Maxxforce7, but having owned a MaxxforceDT, I would still advise people against buying one. They're seen in the "300" series - FE300, RE300, CE300. Buyer-beware, some less-than-honorable sellers try to disguise their MaxxforceDT as a DT466e.

The ranges of buses are kinda like this (loosely speaking, it does vary a bit)
<1997 - mostly all mechanical / no computers
1997-2003 - some computerized engines/tranny, no emissions controls
2004-2007 - basic emissions control (EGR usually)
2008-2010 - advanced emissions control (DPF)
2010+ - advanced emissions with DEF

Got the V8 and I6 part flipped

The Maxxforce DT is an inline-6 7.6L
Maxxforce 7 is a V-8 6.4L

Yep. Like many other things now, newer is not always better. (Guitars, guns, tools)

Pre 2004 busses are more desirable around here due to emissions regulations after that. Not that we are pro pollution mind you. It’s just that those busses have problems.
