Locking differentials ??

Noticed these two truck locking diff's in my favorite junk yard.
The axles were there also but I did not see the driveshafts.

Are they compatible with any bodies axles?

These are from a spicer

The Spicer was air brakes the Eaton hydraulic.

Mine is an Eaton rear with Detroit gear locker. Detroit gear makes locking differentails for many different makes of rear.

The pictures shows what I call the "pumpkin" this is likely to fit only the same make as the rest of the axle. An Eaton to an Eaton, dana to dana, etc.


Looks like the Spicer you show is automatic locking, and the other can be locked or unlocked by the driver.

I thought locking was pretty rare but I guess not



I think I have a Spicer under Dory. Not sure if I like automatic locking. I will go back and try to figure out the ratios of each of them.


Let me know if anybody is interested and for what kind of money.

Automatic locking can be a bit unnerving at times, as slow speed tight turns will often cause loud popping sounds and a jerk to go with it as the rear unlocks to allow a turn. They run locked all the time and unlock to turn.

I have not owned one that can be controlled by the driver, but that really is "the" set up to have have, gives the best of both worlds.
