What would be some common oil leaks on a 1999 bluebird with with t444e and the 643 tranny? Trying to get an idea going to look at one tomrrow.

When I took a quick look she wasn't marking her spot on the ground. I just noticed some drips by like the back of the motor and tranny. When I look at it today I will have my creeper so I can really get a good look at things. Just being cautious and trying to get a heads up on what to look for.

Check the weep hole on the tranny for signs of the rear main seal. They're known to seep a bit. Probably not what you're seeing though.

Is it a nightmare to drop the tranny on a bus? I dropped manual transmissions out of light trucks. Is it kind of the same just on a bigger scale?

T-444E's leak around the turbo pedstal at times, if someone has installed a RACOR CCV system (on the left valve cover) it will likely leak there..

I used to fret about oil leaks but I dont worry about them anymore.. I found out that driving 1000s of miles, the oil leaks arent nearly as bad as you think they are unless they are pouring.. I'll see little spots on the ground but my oil levels always seem to stay full...

Underside of the transmission. Right by where it mates to the engine. Its a good size round hole. Its VERY common to have a leaky rear main seal. Most like myself just let it go until the oil loss becomes apprecaiable/notable.

On dropping the trans- Not a nightmare. Just like any light duty truck, only much heavier. You'll need a heavy duty transmission jack.

Thank you maybe I'm being to cautious. After I run it and park it I'll make sure there is no sign of major leaks.

Check your dipstick level regularly and you'll know if you have a serious leak.

My engine is pretty ugly, but it holds oil just fine and runs better than my 2013 subaru.

Yeah I have a 79 Chevy 350 to look at it you would swear it wouldn't hold any oil lol. But she only uses one quart every 3,000 miles. So I know what you are talking about.

My subaru has used about a quart or so every 2000 miles since new. Its a replacement car for a 2012 impreza that burned even MORE than that! Post-2010 subes are JUNK.
My bus seems to use less oil than my "green eco-friendly" "modern" car.

Wow that crazy a little puddle jumper uses that much. Sounds like they need to redesign that engine.

They're running a new "low ring tension" design. basically the rings NEVER really seat properly and the little sob's burn oil like the dickens. At around 100k or so the cats and sensors go out, costing BIG bucks. Total nightmare, these newfangled subies. The old ones "only" had head gasket problems, the new ones are rotten from their very core.

The sube will be sold next year. I'll have enough $$ from that to buy a NICE shorty bus! I gotta have me a 466 shorty with air ride!

I gotta tell you im impressed by the T-444E in a shorty.. for a full-size bus I think it would be a dog.. but in my little shorty that bus takes right down the road.. the exporters snatch up the DT-466's these days it seems..
