Top end
The transmission isn’t going to determine your top end- rear axel ratio is. I’d look for a 466 DT. With a 3060p if you want longevity. 466’s require a rear main seal at 140,000 but I’ve had several 466 engines with well over 400,000 miles.
My AMTRON bus has the 175hp 466 with the 4speed Allison. The exam is set at 65 mph. The bus gets 5-6mpg. But with a $500 chip that engine plus a larger radiator will easily push 250-275hp. And will gain better in the Mpg department.
Low mileage 5.3 is a wee bit of an engine.
