Exclamation Pre-Engine Swap Questions

Howdy y'all, today is a sad day! For our pockets at least...
We unfortunately have to replace our engine, and that's just how it is.

No time to waste, so I'm going to just fire these off.

Our engine is a 93' 7.3L IDI, I honestly don't know the model number. Whatever info anyone would need from us to better help we can get it. So our questions are:

Do we need to swap the exact same engine? If not, what are our general options?

We've been told it would be wise to swap our water pump as well. Is there anything else we might want to consider replacing to honor our new engine?

Does anyone have any leads to a new engine with at least some type of warranty?

Anything else you think we need to know, hit us with it!

A lot of variables to consider, but you might consider swapping an engine and transmission both. If you can find something with a T444E (or a Ford 7.3 Powerstroke) in it and a better transmission (no idea what's in yours has in it), you might be able to buy the entire vehicle, and swap the powertrain, ecm, etc.

Just a thought.

Actually you can swap anything you want. But the only engines that are a direct replacement is the 7.3 idi and a 6.9 idi. If you want more power and there is room , go with the 7.3 idi turbo. Swapping in a 7.3 ps is possible just remember that the idi is mechanical, the ps is full electronic. You would need the entire wiring harness for the ps and the trans. A big job.

If you have the cash you can get a 7.3 idi turbo crate engine for around $4000

Right on, we definitely want more power so we'll be looking primarily for a 7.3L IDI Turbo. Definitely want to avoid electronics so thanks for making that apparent, because we were considering the T444E. Guess that's what the "e" stands for, heh. But we also weren't sure if it was compatible with out AT545 trans. I'm not sure we'll have to replace it, hopefully not.

If you can find a rusty but good running northern bus you could upgrade the engine, trans, maybe even the rear end if applicable.
Not sure what all would be involved in swapping to a DT466, but a 466 and 643 is a good stout combo.
just my lil' 2 cents.

I'm not too sure what you mean by "northern bus", and what is a 643? Sorry I'm not too familiar. I'll take all of cents I can get my friend.

Allison's 643 is an upgrade to the 545. No overdrive, but stronger and has lockup in 3rd and 4th.
Northern bus is just what it sounds like. A rusty bus from a state like Michigan. The body is rusty beyond being worth saving but the mechanical bits may be salvageable.
Just a thought.
