Replacing shocks. DIY or a job for the shop? IC 3800

So, I know how to replace shocks on passenger vehicles, but I'm not sure how, or if I should even try, to replace the shocks on this bus.

Is there a practical way a home mechanic can make this happen without spending too much $ on uncommon tools or equipment, or would you suggest bringing it to a biz better equipped for this sort of work?

Any idea how long of a job this would be at a shop and/or ~ how much it would cost?

Also, any info on a source for shocks would be great too. I'm sure it can't be hard, but I haven't researched that yet.

The only difference I see is the bus shock is bigger. So it should be no different changing bus shocks DIY.

Thanks, Marc. I see what you mean. Maybe next time I should look before posting questions lol. For some reason I was concerned I'd have to support the chassis somehow. Now I see it's just like most anything else.

The springs hold the bus up, not the shocks.

The vehicle being held up by the springs applies to all vehicles that have springs, but as someone who learned to drive on a John Deere at age 6, I know that not all vehicles have springs, and if they don't have springs they don't need shocks either. Fortunately our buses have both.

It's not hard. Biggest issue would be if you have tools that are large enough.

You might also need a heat source(acetylene torch) of some kind if the nuts/bolts are rusted tight.

I think sometimes I get intimidated by the sheer size of this thing and figure it's got to more difficult to <insert x job here> than a 'normal vehicle' without bothering to verify. Kind of put my frontal lobe on stand-by when asking the question above. I'm used to working on things with 2 tires vs 6, and a wet weight <500lbs !

Anyway, yeah... got a 3/4 drive set & map gas. Should be GTG.
