fan blade and a shroud

These parts are very common. The fan must have been changed by some other than a school shop. Any fan that can shatter in not good. Remove the fan blade and determine the number of bolts and the spacing. My BB bus uses a 7.3 also but is metal. The shrouds sometimes crack and break after time. The best fans have the most blades and my BB has 8 blades. The fans with 5-6 blades make bigger bites and eat horse power. Frank

fans

A good fan is a SS flex fan. Plastic and fibreglass fans are not good. Frank

Re: shattered fan blades

has anyone added a extra electric fan ? I want to add one to my 7.3 to add extra cooling , i dont like it when the fan cuts in, makes to much noise, robs power.I might mount one in the front of the rad, if I can find one that turns the right way
sorry to jack the thread

gbstewart

Aux electric cooling fans

To my knowledge, no one has created an electric fan to remove the heat from a large diesel engine. Some folks have increased the diameter of the fan and uses more horse power. Just about everything is a trade off. Compromise... Frank
