Short bus steering stabilizer upgrade

Okay, just to be clear, there is nothing mechanically wrong with my former shuttle bus, but, after roaming this forum and RV forums, it appears the general consensus is to replace/upgrade the steering stabilizer.

I have a 2011 Ford E350 Super Duty cutaway van that is a Forest River shuttle bus. It is 24ft long and is within the range window of a Class C RV. The existing steering stabilizer is old, it appears old, and looks like something one would install on a screen door. Looking over the maintenance records (former university shuttle bus so plenty of records), shows it was replaced with an OEM or similar model about 5-6 years ago.

The plan is to install a Bilstein 5100 steering stabilizer. Pretty sure this would be an upgrade and should improve some handling. As I don't drive it every day and it does not have a 'death wobble', the life expectancy for this item should be right up there with what the manufacturer states.

Does anyone here have any experience with doing this on this size vehicle, and if so, what was your perspective on how it improved the handling?

In related info, the front shocks are scheduled to be replaced early summer with a set of Bilsteins as well.

Yes I have confidence in the bilstein components.

This won’t change the handling at all.

This may help any “wobbles” you may have.

I agree - when driving on the road you'll never know if you have OEM or aftermarket stabilizer.

If you can drive down the highway, hit a good bump on one side, and the front end doesn't go scary crazy, then the stabilizer you have is probably still working fine.

Ford steering, yup 👍

Hey man.. fellow shuttle bus convert here on a 2002 E350 cutaway.

These rigs from Ford have the notorious “wander” with regard to steering so always keep your hands on the wheel.

Happy to connect with another Washingtonian enthusiast. I’m up north. We roll 3 seasons recreational, parked for the winter.
