Tire date codes... how do you read them?
Does anyone know how to read the date codes on tires? I'm not finding the normal D.O.T. numbers in the pic I took. I'm not sure I even took a pic of the right numbers but how old are these tires? A quarter is 1" in diameter. Tread depth on Michelins are 16 to 25 32nds depending on model. I know they are Michelins but I don't remember what model. These tires in particular look damn good to me but my question is in general for the next bus I look at. How do you read the codes on the tire?
pretty sure the date codes are always "branded" into the tire usually with an oval around them.
Your pic shows the info that is in the tire mold and shows up on every tire coming out of that mold.
You want the numbers like these:

Yeah that's the way passenger tires work but I dunno if that carries over to commercial tires. I was assuming one of those numbers would at least be a batch number. There may be 10,000 tires a batch but they were all made between Sept 1st and Oct 31st or something like that.
From it: "Every tire sold for use on the highway in the USA must have a full DOT serial including the date code molded on at least one side." That is, it applies to car and truck tires.
Your picture does not include the date code. Has to be 1/4" letters.

Damn it. Figured as much. Good to know and thx.
I've got a bid in on another bus anyway <chewing fingernails>.
Yeah, none of what you have pictured are date codes. They will usually only be on one side of the tire so if somebody rotated the tires the codes might be facing the inside of the bus.
