To much rust?

IMG_2966.jpg
Iíve been detailing my Cummins and came across parts that are rusty a little more than I am sure of. What do you guys think. To much rust or is it okay? What should I spray on it? IMG_2964.jpg

The scaling on that block looks like it's been under water, for a long time.

You'll get the same protection using liberal, regular applications of WD-40. That is its purpose, preventing corrosion (and not lubrication). And you'll keep more of your money.

So youíd recommend spraying it down with WD40? Should I continue to chip away at all that rust?

Chip??? No, use a wire brush. And spray it down regularly and copiously with WD-40, then let it dry. The film it leaves behind is what protects from corrosion, it's what the product is designed to do (WD = Water Displacement). Works wonders as well on aircraft in places close to the ocean, and on boats. Just don't put it where you don't want any dust to accumulate. The film attracts it and gums everything up.

Iíve heard WD40 is widely misunderstood as a lube and not for water displacement like you stated. I still think Iím going to use the 3 step POR15 rust stuff on these really bad spots but I will use WD40 on these other parts around the bus that has minor rust that I donít want to do a 3step process.
