tractor hydraulic fluid, can I use it?

Hey all,

So I have been going through some stuff I have around lately and ran across 2 5 gallon buckets of 'tractor hydraulic fluid' I got with my first bus (1986 international, dt466, at545). I am wondering if this is usable in that bus or in my new bus (1990 thomas saf-t-liner mvp, cummins 6bt, at545) and if so what system? i never was exactly sure why it was in the bus, but i did buy it from a farm, so maybe he was just storing it in there? I dont want to keep hauling it around if i dont need it, but would be more than happy to if it is. the coolant system takes coolant, engine takes oil, brakes and auto chains air, tranny takes dexron, so where would i use this, if at all? thanks for the help!

Believe it or not, I believe the transmission. Allison even has a service bulletin out on it. I'll look it up for you, though.

Power steering does, but you don't need 10 gallons of it.

Approved C4 list

Btw...don't tell anyone, but this is what I'm running in my MT643. Shifts are firmer and transmission runs perfectly cool.

But first check it to make sure it has the Allison C-4 rating. And I would recommend doing some research. I did enough research to determine I was comfortable putting C4 rated motor oil in my trans, but don't just take my word for it. This post is my opinion...I do not recommend...blah blah blah...

I know in the demolition derby world lots of people use them in cars. Granted most guys blow up trannys on a regular basis and they get rebuilt but I know many very high dollar cars run it. As Jake said... I would make sure its compatible but unless its some generic made fluid they usually manufacture to standards of most manufactures spec... that way they can sell more product.
