TRANSMISSION ID from VIN #?

Can a person look up what motor and trans a bus had from the vin number?

The bus data plate can sometimes have the transmission serial number on it as well. You can use that and look it up on the allison website.

Or you can call the bus's respective dealer, give them the vin, and they should be able to look that up for you, if it's recent enough.

And that's if nobody's done anything goofy with it. Although rare, swaps can and do happen. Also be sure the vin listed matches the vin on the unit. Sometimes districts flip flop numbers by accident. That happened to a member on here before, but that's a story for another time.

ok thanks guys. Also is there any difference in transmissions in buses that are puller or pusher? Is like a md 3060 in a bus that has the motor in the rear different than a bus with the motor by the driver? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I wouldn't think they would be different.

No major difference. Specs might be different trans to trans, but there's nothing different to handle the flip or anything.

the easiest way to tell a trans (auction picture hunting)

the year and the make are going to narrow you down to only 1 or 2 choices. seeing the shift pad in pictures usually can predict the transmission.

there are some skoolie cheat sheets on lengths, motors,..et cetera that can give the options for that make and year. i dont recall the link but it'd be easy to find.

if you have to ask.... its probably a 545

The trans ID # I ran says it should be a MD3060. What parts do I take off this bus to go with the trans if I decide to get it? Thanks

If it's an International - you can usually get the trans model off the build sheet at repairlinkshop.

Or post your VIN here and I can run it quick.
