Transmission Needs to be Rebuilt - Any goodies I should get?

I've got a 1995 E-350 7.3L, with what is most likely the original transmission. After having some issues with gears slipping, shifting incorrectly, and the overdrive OFF light blinking, my mechanic diagnosed it as a bad converter. Due to its age, they can't find any in stock around the country, so I'm just going to bite the bullet and get it rebuilt.

Are there any particular upgrades I should get? Bigger transmission fluid pan? Cooler? In-dash temperature gauge? 4x4??

I assume it is an E40D trans and if so unless it is very low mileage it is probably not original these transmissions were cr*p when introduced and were so trouble prone that commercial users quit buying the chassis the only long term solution I ever found was to buy a reman unit from jasper and follow there install directions exactly I replaced a load of them for one of my commercial accounts and could never find a local shop who could rebuild one correctly. The jasper unit cost more than double what the local guys charged but they usually held up fairly well. So you’ve got a bad torque converter. While the trans is out have the lines and cooler in the bus flushed. Best time to do it. If you can find a deeper trans pan and it won’t cause clearance issues, then put it in there. The number 1 killer of automatic transmissions is HEAT. A better stand alone cooler will do wonders for longevity and health of your trans. Don’t go the 4x4 swap unless you want to do a bunch more stuff than just the trans. Use the correct fluid when you add to the new/rebuilt tranny. Don’t just pour in any old Walmart cherry juice.

As for there not being any of those torque converters in stock anywhere: that’s BS. Any halfway decent trans shop can order you a TC. Even if you put a rebuilt trans in what do you do when it doesn’t come with a TC? I wish I could provide you with a name of a supplier over there in Cali, but I’m on the East coast.
