Hi All,

I’m looking to swap out my AT545 fir a manual transmission. Any recommendations for somewhere in Houston that can do that?

1995 International 3800 with at444

Thank you

its going to be hard to find a shop to do it.. thats a pretty custom build.. your best bet would be to work on sourcing the parts you need youreself and then talking to some independent shops to see if they can do the work..

an IH 4700 is a Very similar truck to an IH 3800 (the 4700 has a cab).. alot of IH 4700s came with manual transmissions.. that said most of them were slush-boxes.. non overdrive spicer 5 speeds.. occasionally a 6,

if I were going to go for a manual I would probably look at going Big and going for an 8 or 10 soeed with at least 1 or 2 OD gears.. a lot more involved to drive but much more versatile esp in the mountains..

Thank you so mush for replying. I will start my research on it all. I’m in Houston and really just need it to drive to Dallas and Austin not many mountains there. Currently my AT545 won’t shift into second. So as soon as my new filter arrives i’m changing the fluid and going from there. I’m not an engine guy so trying to figure it out. Bht i can mix a band infront of 80,000 people lol.

I can mix techno /trance in 4 decks but couldn’t mix a band to save myself !!

No shift to second .. even if you just punch it and go flat out it never shifts ? If so I’d pull the governer .. it’s in a little bubble housing near the tail of the trans .. there’s a plastic gear on it that can get ground up and the symptom is no shift no matter what

Yeah i toured professionally as a sound engineer for 25 years. Kinda retired now in a venue in Houston. I haven’t had a chance to put my foot down yet as i just finished replacing sensors, relays etc and waiting for a new trans filter to come in today. I’ve only driven it around the block so far. But i will try and go out again tomorrow after new ATF as it was very brown.

I did pull the governer and it and the gear looked fine. Not figured out how to add a photo here yet.

Most 545 installs have 2 sets of filters .. one is in the pan and the other are one or 2 spin on type filters.. the spin on filters filter fluid in the cooling stream and the pan filter is the last chance of filtration as it sucks fluid from the pan.
