What Is That

Was following this School Bus today I spotted this pipe sticking out the roof, It looked like a 1in plpe with a 45deg elbow.

Your in CALI. And there is a HANDI door on the side.
That is probably a vent for a toilet (holding tank an sink hopefully) or the new EGR valve for the engine which is so clean and green that it doesn't need to steel pipe to deal with its hydro-electric engine?

Looks like factory it was supposed to stop below roofline(i see louvered metal just below on the sides)? Extended higher aftermarket?

The military used auxiliary diesel fired heaters with an exhaust that looked like that.

It's clearly a periscope. The Navy had School Buses fitted with underwater induction engines.
