You can change the ring and pinion gear set, and get a different set of ratios, but where are you going to find the parts for that at? All the ones I've seen had ratios in the 5 or 600's. Maybe you can cross gear sets from other axles to fit into a 2 speed. Maybe you can get something custom made?

At the bottom of the page, elliot was told the same thing that I've learned and assumed. They didn't design 2 speed axles as an overdrive but as a crawler gear, which is why you won't find the right ratio's to make them into one.


We had 2 trucks where I work with 2 speed rear ends. Both were Chevrolet Kodiak’s. Low gear was indeed for pulling or “crawling”. Neither could be shifted while moving.

Someone else said this but was a good explanation of why to stay away from EGR engines. When it comes.to EGR, you can only breath your own sh*t for so long before problems occur.
