1990 Ford V8 6.7 litre diesel

looking at an ad for a nicely converted 1990 Ford skoolie - the owner says it's a V8 6.7 liter diesel - I haven't been able to find any information online about it - is there such a motor?

turns out it's a 6.6 litre - 175 HP which isn't very impressive

I understand that parts availability can be a challenge on the 6.6.

thanks - as beautiful as the conversion is and as attractive as the price is, I'm not interested in one that has a 175 horse power motor

I wouldn't pass up on that if the price is right.

The ford 6.6 and 7.8 used a bosch injection pump which can be easily modified for more hp. Add a different turbo and you can have 200+hp easily. Yes they're getting rare but are usually super reliable engines.

The big thing I'd watch for is the transmission. Being 175hp it probably has an at545. The at545, although an alright trans in certain apps, isn't a good choice behind a low reving high torque engine.

Share the ad so we can all see what you're looking at.

I would check it out in person.

4800 cad is 3500 usd?

I'm not sure how the bus market is on the west coast of canada, but I paid 3500 for mine. It too was converted already and was precisely what I was looking for. Yes you can get a bus from auction for $2000, but there is value in having the seats already out and certain conversion items in place.

If I'm reading right, it needs a water pump, and she's been trying to sell it for a while. That should give you some leeway for pricing.

It'd be nice if she actually took pictures of it. Everything I saw was either useless as far as inspections go or had some weird filter on it. I don't know why people take for sale pictures and apply colored filters

See what it actually has for an engine, and see what transmission is in it.

the motor is a 6.6 and she says it's poor on the hills - that was enough for me to step back
