motor swap

I have a 1983 ford b600 thinking about a motor swap, it has a 370 with a Allison at545 that same year was offered with a 8.2 lt diesel is it a direct swap will it bolt to the Allison at545? or do I have to upgrade tran to at643 (that may be the wrong # it off the top of my head). any other major mods? not married to the detriot diesel I just stock in that and yr and model. I would like to keep this simple. the schoolie has sentimental value so replacing the bus is out but the misses and I would like to travel and based on hill performance mountains would be sketchy at best. would like to hear what everyone thinks

To determine if any engine will fit any trans, first count the bolts connecting the engine to the trans. Nearly any engine can be connected to any trans with an adapter. Find a Allison AT545 or call around and determine the bolt count. There are 6 major bell housing adapters and sizes with different number of bolts. The Allison MT 643 is a medium duty trans unlike the AT 545. Frank
