removing stock fuel tank??

i have a 97 bluebird mid length. just wondering if there are any good threads out there that show how to remove the tank. im sure i can figure it out just wanted to see if there were any tips or tricks out there.

im looking to clean it out and remove the internal screens.

Check the bottom of the tank. Most large tanks have a removable plug on the bottom.

If all you want to do is clean the crud (and water) out of the bottom of the tank and it has a drain then I would do this:

- fill the tank half way;
- drive around a bit to stir things up;
- drain the tank into a shallow container then transfer the fuel into 5 gallon buckets;
- let the buckets settle overnight and pull the clean diesel off of the top (by siphoning or with a drill pump) to use in the tank again;
- repeat.

If you are wanting to clean and paint the exterior of the tank then, yeah.. drop it. Most of the corrosion will be around the tank straps and there's no way to properly do the job with the tank mounted. I was able to do the job by myself with the help of a jack and some wood blocks.

Ah, I missed that part. What do you mean by internal screens? Are you talking about a screen for the pickup? If the fuel pump is at the engine then you may not have any in the tank. Mine is just before the fuel pump.

id like to have a screen filter rather than have the fixed screen in the tank. im running a wvo blend and its im the first few tanks so i know there will be debris being released. Dont wanna have to drop the tank all the time. but then again there may be no permanent filter in the tank. so im inquiring before I actually dig in to it all.

As long as you have a screen so you don't suck up a few french fries.

yea only clean oil is going in the tank. The only french fries to be found on the bus will be on my plate!

Yep, it's probably the same. Mine is a 1997 International with a Thomas body running a T444e. No screens in the tank. The only screen is in the little canister just behind the fuel filter on top of the engine. It screws off and it's worth checking every couple thousands KMs. I found pieces of a zip-lock bag wrapped around mine the first time I opened it (how???).

Wait a minute.. Now I'm getting a bit concerned. Are you planning a single tank system for WVO using only the stock tank? Unless you live on the equator, I think you'll be running into problems with that...

yes for the time being and cut with 49%diesel and 1% rug. it runs great no smoke at all.

Gotcha. Blending. Not straight WVO

How long have you been running the T444e on that blend?

About about 4-5 tanks so far. I've had dozens of older diesels and they all ran well on that blend.
