I'm not sure if this is the proper location for this issue, if not please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Problem: 1969 c/60 converted bus had braking issues
solution: changed master cylinder, bled brakes, drove home 180 miles in order to properly inspect all four brakes
Upon inspection we removed tires, couldn't pull drums off, after MULTIPLE HOURS of trying to adjust the adjusting wheel without success (and speaking to a few guys that drive semi-trucks for a living) decided that cutting the four pins sticking out of the rear plate was our only option. Turns out the adjusters were stuck and turning them would have been almost impossible in that coin slot they call a window.
That got the drum off alright. Both cylinders on that side are SHOT. having a hard time tracking down new ones, as well as new shoes, but we think that problem will be solved tomorrow through some friends at FleetPride. I'll come back to that tomorrow.
However, the real problem is that finding those replacement pins has proved to be impossible. I ordered one hardware set from carquest, wrong set, can't get correct set. I'm feeling the "can o' worms" syndrome setting in
I suppose what I am asking is:
1: does anybody know if those pins are sold separately or do I have to buy a new rear plate equipped, and where I can purchase said name thing.
2: any sort of information on the braking system equipped with that model would be greatly helpful. I know it is a 15 x 5, but that's about it.
3: Any sort of direction I can be pointed in for finding replacement parts and information on the entire braking system would be greatly helpful as well.
I disclosed that I was a newbie, and after reading this I have absolutely proven that. I have had success solving problems in forums like these before, so any helpful hints or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
Edit: I am located in Raleigh NC, and anything somewhat nearby would also help.
