I went to try and start my bus the other day and it started after a few tries. I then noticed a bit of smoke coming from under the dash on the left side. I believe it came from this burnt wiring harness that leads to this black box. Does anyone know what this is? Meanwhile, I have not been able to start my bus since this - it will turn over just wont fire up. Possibly related??
I believe what this is is the Engine Alarm Module (based on the 87 Chevy manual). It actually prevents the vehicle from starting if its bad so I am in trouble until I find a replacement. Anyone know of any places to find a parts bus or truck of the GM 6000 series caliber?
I has disconnected the alarms before and not had any problems. Just be careful. I think some have had problems with their vehicle not starting. Make sure you mark what you remove so you know how it goes back together.
